「玉のように美しい島々」と万葉の歌にうたわれた岡山県倉敷市玉島地区。江戸期建造の伝統的建造物群と瀬戸内海の自然美、そして観光地化されていない町の様子や人々の温かさは、来訪者に大きな印象を与えています。しかし一方で急速な社会環境の変化にともない、そこで培われてきた産業や生活文化の多くが消え、建造物や歴史資料などの文化資源も加速度的に失われつつあります。消費型社会から、循環型社会への移行が強く求められる現代。私たちは使命感を持って資料の調査・収集を行い、町の方たちの声に耳を傾け、新しい価値観の創造と共有を目指して本活動に取り組みます。

The Tamashima, Kurashiki City, Okayama prefecture is written as "islands that are beautiful like jewels" in Manyo tanka collection. These are groups of historic buildings constructed  in Edo era and the natural beauty of Seto Inland Sea. The town has not been changed into a tourist resort and warm-hearted residents will impress a visitor strongly. However, on the other hand, most of local industries and regional culture in this area have disappeared with rapid social environmental change, and furthermore, the cultural resources such as traditional buildings or historical documents have been lost with increasing speed. The modern society strongly demands a shift from the consumption society to the recycling society. With the sense of duty, we work on this activity by investigating and collecting data and listening to the local residents to create and share the new values of Tamashima.
